WhatIWore: My first sewing project this year is a camel blazer. I found some beautiful camel colored wool over the weekend (on sale!) and will be using a modified women’s pattern. I’m planning on a two piece sleeve (and functional cuff buttons) and will be adding in two flap pockets to the front. I’m skipping a breast pocket due to the cut and sew lines in the pattern.
Although I’m not using traditional tailoring techniques for the construction of this jacket (re: no pad stitching hair canvas and using non fusible interfacing instead), I am planning on using some menswear touches. I have a darker camel hair wool for the under collar and I’m toying around with the idea of doing elbow patches too. I also found some great woven leather buttons online and I can’t wait for them to arrive!
So… here’s my inspiration board for this project. I’ve been collecting images for a month or two and actually cut out my fabric last night. It’s my goal to have this complete by the time I head to SLC for Alt Summit later this month.
- Love this image so much I’ve pinned it twice. Love the front flap pockets and working cuff.
- This is the blazer that started my obsession. Even if I could track it down, it’s priced well out of my budget. I do love the leather details!
- Elbow patches?
- These are the buttons I ordered! I hope they match. If not, I found some darker woven leather buttons in the bottom of my sewing kit last night!
- I’m going for a narrow lapel like this jacket
- Camel plus gray.
