Studs & Chanel (inspired) Jacket DIY

WhatIWore: When a DIY moment hits me, I just go for it! This project included a bag of a 1000 studs left over from the Weardrobe Conference and a gifted 60s Chanel style wool jacket. The result - a mix of punk and ladylike chic. I LOVE IT! I’ll be debuting the jacket with an outfit this week, but until then, here’s some details on the project. Enjoy!

This vintage jacket was gifted to me by my aunt Barb (it belonged to her mother Sally). I liked the idea of the jacket, but everytime I attempted to style it, I felt like a candidate’s wife Barbara Bush. This jacket needed a little sass.

First step - g’bye cheap-o buttons!!

Next I started studding the collar (and used this as my guideline for the thickness of the center front and sleeve stud work).

I ordered these studs from SpikesandStuds.com. Using the studs is really simple. You place the stud down on the right side of the fabric and from the back you have to turn the prongs down. I used the edge of my kitchen table as well as my thumbs (which hurt so bad by the time I was done).

After you’ve turned under the prongs as best as possible, use some sort of tool to really press them up onto themselves. I used the rubber handle of a screw driver (and I seriously pounded at it)
This is a REALLY simple project. I’d advise doing a simple pattern with large studs (mine were between 1/4” and 1”) to avoid looking like a 2nd grade Bedazzler project (unless that’s what you’re going for!) I haven’t counted but estimate I used about 1000 studs (or more!). Make sure you have enough before you get started (because its SO addictive! Can’t stop! Won’t Stop!)
I am so happy with the finished result!!! I’ll be wearing the jacket this week!! Stay tuned!
