When it comes to Halloween, why buy your costume if you could make it (or better yet, pull it out of your own closet!)?? All week long I’ll share my ideas for inexpensive, Homemade Halloween costumes. Enjoy!
As the current IU Men’s Basketball team goes into the 2012 season ranked #1, I thought it would be fun to dress up as a retro IU ball player from the 1981 NCAA Championship winning season. We even had access to shoot a couple of photos in the one and only Assembly Hall! Can you tell how excited I was by the look on my face?!? GO! BIG! RED!
Inspiration:
Key Elements:
- Indiana Jersey (kids large)
- Short Shorts
- White Tube Socks
- White Sneakers
- Sweat Band
- Faux Perm
This costume is great for a college basketball fan that has access to a jersey and matching shorts already in his/her closet or a friend to borrow from. Although I’ve been watching IUBB all my life, I can’t remember back far enough to when the players wore shorter shorts and was excited to do a retro version of the uniform from 1981. One thing I love about Indiana jerseys are the lack of player names on back, a tradition from the Coach Knight days.
I borrowed socks from Adam, used my tennis sneakers and set my hair in perm rods to shorten my hair to a men’s length (or you could use a wig). Here’s to hoping we can add a sixth championship banner this season!!
Cost: $100 or less if you already have access to a jersey/shorts
Difficulty Level: Very Easy
Time Commitment: 3 hours (for curls to set), less than 10 minutes if you already have short or curly hair!
