One trend I noticed a lot of during NYFW were red pants. Whether they were wide legged or skinnies, they were always this vibrant shade of tomato red. AND I HAD TO HAVE THEM! I’ve seen a lot of great looking pairs for sale online, but pants are something I like to try on before I buy. On my checklist: length, wide leg, high waist.
I’ve never made a pair of fitted trousers before, so I thought this would be my perfect opportunity. I scoured the pattern books (there’s no way I’d try to draft my own) and found Simplicity Pattern 2562 which promised to have an ‘amazing fit’. First I made a muslin mock up just to see if there were going to be huge adjustments. Luckily- there were none! (One side note - pattern sizes are drastically different from store sizes. Always make sure to read the measurements before you cut your pattern. I’m a 12 in patterns/4 in store pants.)
Now, how about this outfit? I really like color blocking warm shades of orange, red and pink together (See here, here and here), but I knew I’d need to attempt to tone things down a little with a tailored black blazer. I absolutely love the way this outfit turned out. As we turn the corner into Spring I plan on re-hemming the pants to work with my spring shoes. And I love the pattern so much, I already have my second pair cut and ready to sew!
So… what do you think? Will you be wearing red pants this Spring?
