Why: This is the kind of outfit that makes me feel young at heart. It reminds me of the TED talk I gave in 2011, when I spoke about how fun it is to see children who’ve dressed themselves. Like when you take all of your favorite things and put them all on at once.
Walking down the street in a tutu this morning made me feel a little silly, but it also felt so fun! The 5 year old Jessica would absolutely approve! Plus - I made the skirt! Exclamation points!!!
For those of you interested, its a giant circle skirt with 8 layers of tulle. I laid the fabric into a large square and from the center measured for my waist and the hem. I cut out the center circle and hem, made a little slit to fit over my hips then sewed on a grosgrain ribbon waistband. No hemming, no zipper, just a pair of hook and eyes at back. It was super easy!
To play down the girliness of the skirt, I added the most bad ass item in my closet - my leather moto jacket. I love the way they look together!
