Why: I’m so in love with what I’m wearing today, and two pieces especially - my hat and pants. Here’s why - I’m the kind of girl that certainly appreciates designer collections, but my pocket book stops me from wearing them head to toe. If I’m going to splurge on something, I want it to be a piece that’s really special. These pants are a great example. I first saw the Davis print at the Spring 2013 show last September and totally swooned over it. The skirt sold out quickly, but when the friends and family sale showed up in my inbox last week, I took the plunge on the pants. I love the fit and I’ve been really into black and white the past few seasons. I can see myself wearing them for a long time to come!
The second part of this outfit that I’m pretty proud of - my self made hat. I’ve taken up millinery as a hobby (see my first hat here) and I’ve been blocking up straw hats for spring. I’d like to get some photos of the process on my next one, but the short story is that you buy either a hood or capeline of straw that you then dampen and form to a wooden mold. You let it dry overnight and then remove it from the block. Next you determine your brim width, cut and sew that with wire, add an inner band and finish it with an outer band. I can’t wait to show you the other styles I’ve been making!
