When: May 14, 2013
Two Tone Straw and Grosgrain Hat: Self Made
Cross Body Bag: Coach “Mini Willis”
Where: Studio, hopefully a bike ride later!
Why: This outfit came together in a perfect storm of inspiration - from the texture of my hat and the bee print of my blouse, to the kinda sorta retro-y vintage feel of the high waisted shorts, silk tie and the shape of the hat.
First of all, I saw The Great Gatsby this weekend and absolutely loved it. I’m a big fan of Baz Lurhmann and Catherine Martin and I’ve recently also fallen hard for design of the 1920s (how hard? check out my 30th bday fête!) I know this outfit isn’t that Gatsby or a literal interpretation of the twenties, but I this is what I came up with based on that inspiration. I’m one gimlet away from a fox trot, kid!
The other inspiration came from the weave of the straw I used to make this hat, which kind of reminds me of a vintage bee keeper’s hood. With that in mind, I pulled out my silk bee blouse. Isn’t the combo cute?!
Because the shorts are so short, I felt that flats would be most flattering (the shorter the hem, the lower the heel!). I finished it all off with my new little Coach bag. We’re due for a sunny, beautiful day, so I can’t wait to jump on my bike for a long ride this afternoon!
