When: October 7, 2013
Why: What’s a girl to do when her husband wakes up on a rainy Sunday morning and suggests a greasy diner breakfast and a trip to the outlet mall?! JUMP FOR JOY, that’s what! I’ve been a little uninspired lately and a new pair of jeans, a shiny necklace and a plaid shirt really cheered me up.
To extend on yesterday’s post, sometimes I feel pressure to constantly be putting together ‘an outfit’ but the truth of the matter is that I really like my basic looks. I hate to admit it, but I feel a little guilty if I wear something too similar, too often. Chambrays, jean jackets, booties, nude heels ring a bell? At the same time, I realize it’s a lot more rewarding, comforting and confidence boosting to just wear what I feel like wearing. I pride myself on being a blogger that’s in touch with realistic, real outfits and it’s worth noting that everything you see on this blog is what I really wear on a given day. We typically shoot every morning then I go into my office, edit those photos and post them either day of or the next morning.
So keeping that ‘real world’ mentality in mind, I think one of the easiest ways to up the ante on a basic look is to add a great necklace. I tend to collect these kinds of statement pieces in neutral tones - clear and black and gold and silver because they’re so easily layered with any pattern shirt. Here are a few examples.
