What I Wore
When:
September 14, 2008
What:
Shades: Beacon’s Closet
Tank: Sample from work
Skirt: American Eagle, 8 years old?
Bag: vintage, thrifted, Beacon’s
Shoes: Target
Where:
Checking out Brooklyn Flea, coffee shop
Why:
New York weather always seems to have tricks up her sleeve, especially when we get a dose of reality (it is still summer) and a 90+ degree day. Ok, maybe it wasn’t 90, but in the sun it sure felt like it. After switching my summer closet out yesterday (shoot!) I had to work with what I had left. I am keeping this skirt in the mix because its light and airy, but also works with tights and boots as a good transition piece. I always keep all of my tanks in a drawer year round as well as my non white shoes. So wet hair up and head band on. I’m staying cool today.

WhatIWore:Sneak Peak
Its been two weeks since I’ve been in Brooklyn in a Sunday, so naturally I headed to Brooklyn Flea to check out the wares. I really really tried to check out other booths before heading to see June at White Dove NYC Vintage, but I couldn’t help myself. And my present (other than great conversation from June and her friend Julie) was these darling 1960’s heels. I’m also officially no longer a size 8.5. More like a 9.5, at least in the two pairs I bought today. But these are vintage and vintage shoe sizing is funky.
These shoes are near mint condition (maybe worn once or twice) and appear to have been made custom for one Mr. Howard B. Davell. The inside of the heel also has some info (style number, size, client).
I love metallic shoes, because they function as a neutral. And this pair has both gold and silver threads so it will literally match anything. A charming find, indeed.

Vintage Spotlight: White Dove NYC
Today I took the usual pit stop at Brooklyn Flea… just checking out possible “I can’t live without this!” pieces and the ever-present good vibes.
I was mega happy to meet June and Kerin, the owners of White Dove NYC. While eyeing the coat rack in search of a cozy vintage piece for fall, June pointed out this rad short leather jacket. At her insistence, I tried it on and it looked— well, perfect. And then she really had me going when she was like “lets get styling” and pulled out this amazing lady like black and white blouse. I put them on together. I asked the price. Definitely one of those “I can’t live without this these” moments. I was completely sold.
Other items to love- Kerin’s handmade feather headpieces (gone technicolor), mink trimmed suit sets, light as air chiffon dresses and a $10 rack with thrifty style.
June and Kerin are also developing a full out lifestyle website White Dove NYC that will fully launch by the end of September where they will be selling vintage, sharing music and good karma. Until then, stop by Brooklyn Flea on Sundays at Vanderbilt and Lafayette in Brooklyn to check out this rad duo.
