WhatIWore:

Today my hometown newspaper, the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette ran a 3/4 page article on me on the front page of the Living section with their ‘Fashion Forward’ feature. So neat to see my full name, big and in print!! See the larger image here.

My favorite part?

My dad tells a story about how I, as a really little kid, would refuse to eat dinner until I’d put on a dress. My mom was a seamstress, so she would make my clothes – prairie dresses or little plaid jumpers with bonnets. School picture day was always a big deal, and I would think up these crazy outfits. In hindsight, though, it’s very cute. I look at old school pictures and think, ‘Not bad, little 10-year-old.’

Special thanks to Emma Downs, the reporter on this story and Kathryn at Lucky.

WhatIWore: Sneak Peak

Just running errands today at Target and the mall and saw a THAKOON blouse on the 50% off rack!! I liked this print when it was full price, but because I am a so frugal these days $25.99 was really too much. Wow. That sounds so cheap. I guess because it is. But whatever! Fifty percent off and she’s MINE! Score!!

What:

J.Crew Cashmere Sweater: thrifted
Neck scarf: vintage, thrifted
Bracelets: Target, Beacon’s Closet
Jeans: Arden B, free from work
Boots: Gift

Where:

Work, Dentist (Ahhhh!) and Tea

Why:

Just trying to keep my spirits high with bright colors!! Its sort of that “new outfit” feel because most of these pieces are relatively new to my closet.  I just love that feeling. I need to do my taxes pronto so I can go on a big shopping spree with my return check. Stimulate the economy and stimulate my closet. ;)

What:

Dress: designed and constructed by yours truly
Belt (worn backwards): mall store
Tights: Target
Boots: Gift

Where:

Work

Why:

Well, this is the third outfit I not only tried on, but took pictures of.  This is why its good to have some really simple pieces in your closet when you just can’t figure out what to wear. The weather in NYC is warmish and that makes heavy wools feel all wrong. But its still no Miami either. Balancing a short sleeve jersey dress with heavy tights and boots works just right for me today. Plus its like wearing an all over body sweatshirt. How cozy!!

What:

Mysterious Black Scarf
Black T Neck: free from work
Skirt: Marshall’s
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Payless

Where:

Work

Why:

In an attempt to both stretch my wardrobe and conjure up warmer temperatures, I’m wearing a spring skirt with the winter fixins. Tights, t-neck and a scarf, all in black, help ground the look and add a little warmth. Seriously though, 12F degrees really is too cold for something like this. I wanted to feel pretty, but I’ve learned my lesson. Next time we dip this low its back to the thigh high socks and jeans routine.

What:

Sweater: Alpaca Peruvian Sweater, gift from J
Blouse: Penguin
Belt: Lucky Brand (free)
Skirt: free from work
Tights: We Love Colors
Boots: Banana

Where:

Office

Why:

On Friday, one of my very best friends stopped by NYC after a 2 week trip to Peru.  He was super thoughtful and brought me back this beautiful alpaca sweater. This is the second time I’ve worn it since then! I love it. The rich earthtones are keeping me happy and warm. I’m wearing it with a plaid skirt (totally clashing! mwahahah!) in the same color story. I wanted the sweater to be the highlight so I went monotone on the tights and boots. I also have a shot of my coat and scarf in there. Its a vintage piece that had a fur collar (I took that off).

Wearing a new outfit always makes me happy. Even happier that I will always think of my friend each time I wear the sweater. Happy Monday.
