What:

Necklace: Self Made
Blouse: thrifted, vintage, worn backwards
Skirt: thrifted, vintage, hemmed
Tights: Target
Shoes: Payless
Jacket: Fred Segal

Where:

Office

Why:

First off, the more I wear heels, the harder it is for me to go back to flats. I feel like a sky scraper today! Also excited to wear a shirt fresh from the cleaners, paired with something *new* from my closet.  This is a skirt I wore a lot last year as a knee length number, but as you can see, I’ve hemmed it up quite a bit. I love short skirts and tights together!  Instead of being all black and sort of boring, the tights I’m wearing are a dark charcoal and ribbed. Actually, they’re leggings, which are my new faves.  The shoes are my new classic and at the rate I’ve been wearing them, they’ll be perfectly broken in (…soon I hope).

I’m wearing my mom’s charm bracelet from when she was my age. My dad’s college is on there, her high school banner, an artist palette, an ancient Disney pin, a globe… I’ve added a thimble and a DG charm. Its such a great piece.

What:

Scarf: oldie but goodie
Dress: H&M
Belt: Flea Market
Leggings: Target
Booties: Payless
Ring: mom’s

Where:

Work, meeting

Why:

Its the first day of fall and tights are the name of the game. I’ve actually bought a few pairs of leggings recently (no full footie tights in the colors I wanted) and wear them tucked under my heel. I think I may actually prefer not having my toes all sweatied up by tights.  Also, loving this easy knit dress from H&M and keeping it tonal with the tights. My mom’s purple cocktail ring (love it!) also in the same color story.  For the chill in the air, my go to black scarf. The belt shouldn’t work, but it does (to wear at the natural waist, I move the metal tongue to the side and then wrap excess belt to keep her nicely in place). Happy Equinox!

Why:
Finally there’s a chill in the air and a need for a light cardigan on the way to work. Everything morphs from my original intentions in the morning. I started wearing this blouse with its matching necktie, then moved it to the waist and finally dropped it altogether in favor of a leather belt to match my shoes. And went through 3 pairs of jeans before deciding these would work. Those new shoes from yesterday really need to get broken in before I try to wear them for an entire day again. I’m thinking flats to the train, switch to the fancy shoes for the office and back again to something more comfortable for my 1/2 mile trek back to my apartment. I’m on the lookout for some more tights, which are perfect for chilly mornings and getting the most out of your late summer dresses.

Why:
If there’s a time of year (or two times) that I find it really hard to pick out outfits- now and the time leading into spring. The calendar and Mother Nature aren’t yet in tune and it doesn’t help that retailers have been rolling out fall goods since July. So, I stand in front of my closet thinking “what to wear?” and this is something I came up with. I got the shirt in the mail from Etsy seller RetroRedux and knew it was perfect for this week (highs are in the 80s). At first I put it with high waisted jeans, but soon realized it was going to be way too stuffy for that (who likes to sweat in jeans??! could that be one of the worst feelings ever?). Anyways, I’ve worn these shorts to death this summer, especially to work (I feel like the dark wash helps them lean on the appropriate side (and I say that loosely, because wearing shorts into a meeting really isn’t appropriate at all)). Eventually I traded the heels in for ballet flats because I’d rather walk fast than look good (most of the time). So that’s that. Transition outfit #1. Here’s to hoping I can pull off similar cool looks the rest of the week.

Why:
New York weather always seems to have tricks up her sleeve, especially when we get a dose of reality (it is still summer) and a 90+ degree day. Ok, maybe it wasn’t 90, but in the sun it sure felt like it.  After switching my summer closet out yesterday (shoot!) I had to work with what I had left. I am keeping this skirt in the mix because its light and airy, but also works with tights and boots as a good transition piece. I always keep all of my tanks in a drawer year round as well as my non white shoes.  So wet hair up and head band on. I’m staying cool today.
