WhatIWore: Of all of my fashion week experiences, my Milly experience really takes the cake. On Monday, I was invited into Michelle Smith’s showroom to have a first look at the collection and watch a few of the model fittings. Seeing the fabrics in close detail had me really excited to see how the whole show would come together.
Next I was invited backstage the day of show to see the hair and makeup. I also happened to wrangle a photo with Olympic Gold Medalists Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer as well as photos of the general madness happening in the minutes before a fashion show. That coverage is up on the Piperlime NYFW blog today!
And then there was the runway show itself. We saw a lot of the silhouettes that have become staples in the Milly girl’s closet, but in new colors and textiles. The whole show had a bit of a space age vibe, all the way to down to the music. Neon yellow was shown throughout (even as eyeliner and nail polish). Sporty mesh panels were overlayed onto space age fabric. (The design team tipped me off that this fabric works like a slimmer and is super flattering for your figure). I also love the use of silve croc embossed leather and the laser cut leather jackets and bags (I have one that’s very similar!) My favorite looks were the finale (shown above), the black and neon bandage dress and the yellow and blue floral cocktail dress with the transparent rain poncho. Do you have a favorite?
