What I Wore: Modern Margot

WhatIWore:
When:
November 3, 2009
What:
Coat: On loan from Market Publique
Gloves: also on loan from Market Publique
Tights: Simply Vera from Kohl’s
Dress: vintage, thrifted and altered
Shoes: ModCloth
Where:
Walk to the park, coffee and general milling about
Why:
This outfit is a perfect example of how a coat can make everything just… special. I felt like a 2009 version of Margot Tenenbaum in this look… walking down the street with my camera and tripod and big glasses and vintage coat (Should Rian Johnson or Wes Anderson need a costume director, I’m available). Actually, it was a pretty cool feeling. Then I set up shop and jumped around in the leaves and had a ball of a time doing it. I’ve also taken to wearing gloves lately, even when its not cold out. I just feel like it completes the look.
Finally, lets talk about the hosiery and shoes - I hate pantyhose. I do not have a pair to share in my closet. But when a nude leg compliments an outfit, I opt for nude fishnets. I think fishnets used to have a bad rep for being sort of tarty legwear - but these are perfectly ladylike. And as the magazines tell you, wearing nude shoes with a nude leg really does make them l-l-longer.
What I Wore: Luck be a Lady

WhatIWore:
When:
August 24, 2009
What:
Dress: ModCloth
Gloves: vintage, Beacon’s Closet
Belt: vintage (worn backwards)
Necklace: Elma Blint
Hand Bag: vintage, Capricorn Vintage
Shoes: Naturalizers
Where:
Walk in the park with my boyfriend, then he cooked me dinner (Sweet potato pasta and green beans!)
Why:
Sometimes I dress a certain way because I can. When Adam offered to cook a dinner for me, I could have shlepped over there in sweats. Instead, I took a shower, set my hair (results = not what I wanted!) and got all ladylike in my AWESOME new dress. I wanted to play up the vintage feel of the dress and la ti da, I have some new (to me) crocheted motorcycle gloves (so charming, yet badass). Modern shoes (with a vintage feel) and vintage bag (that looks so now!) as well. And then there’s the red lips. Guys, I really don’t know how I feel about them. They are SO POWERFUL. So pigmented! So IN YO FACE! I need to work on the confidence a little with them, but plan on wearing them more and more as time goes on.

WhatIWore:
When:
August 20, 2009
What:
Hat: Vintage
Shades: Urban Outfitters
Dress: ModCloth
Shoes: No. 704b
Necklace: JessLC
Where:
Lets be honest, I only wore the hat in my neighborhood. I later changed into flats and went to a meeting
Why:
Is it possible that a stuffy and very hot apartment can get a girl to run around in her swimsuit and throw on her wackiest hat? Yes! It is possible!! My Missoni inspired dress from ModCloth was the starting point. I love all of the colors and possibilities for accessorizing with color. (I can also imagine how mod this will look with black tights, books and a turtleneck come fall). Ok. I love this outfit. Its on my list of fall goals to wear more hats like this one and rock them out will full confidence. Should I be one of the nut jobs outside the tents this September? The girl in the neon dress with a black feather and netted hat? Hmmm. We shall see!!!
Psst. This is my new lipstick!!
What I Wore: Brooklyn Biking

WhatIWore:
When:
July 28, 2009
What:
Hat: milliner
Brooch: vintage
Blouse: ModCloth
Skirt: Target
Shoes: TopShop
Where:
Biking around Brooklyn on my lunch break!
Why:
I’ve had this outfit hanging up ready for the right summer day- yesterday was beautiful, although pretty hot. When its hot I just can’t bare to wear pants!! I took the hanger ribbons from the blouse and cut them off and tied them into a bow and pinned them onto my hat band (which is just a black knit headband) with a pretty antique brooch. Quite charming, right? Also, because I am nuts, I love how my hat and basket coordinate.

Why:
I’ve been dressing up a lot since a) quitting the office job and b) dating Adam. Win win! This just my be my favorite dress I’ve bought from ModCloth* (and there are a few of them). I love the racer back and high high waist (eat more pizza?!). Just felt really chic and New York and good in this one.

Dress: ModCloth

Why:
Another hot day in New York and just opting to stay cool in a sleeveless dress, wet hair and a hat. And it worked just fine!!
Also, let’s just pretend I intended for the quality of this photo to be sort of old school and vintage. Camera! Get your act together!!! (another clue from the universe to get that new SLR??)
