WhatIWore: I have a lot of people to do Christmas shopping for… so I’ve started to look around online for affordable ideas and presents people will actually use/wear/love. Today I checked out Need Supply and these are some of my favorites!

1.Salvador Button Up

  • Perfect for: Adam, fiancee
  • Why: I love the lumberjack feel and the oversized Buffalo plaid.
  • Pro tip: Sneak some measurements from a shirt your beau already owns to ensure the right fit!

2. Doubs Glove

  • Perfect for: girlfriends
  • Why: they’re cute but don’t scream “preppy! punky! vintagey! modern!” but would fit into any of those categories nicely
  • Pro tip: $20-30 is a good price range for casual gift exchanges, but if you’re unsure or are in a Secret Santa/Holiday Exchange, find out the price ahead of time!

3. Topstitch Fold Over Bag

  • Perfect for: sister, room mate
  • Why: This bag has all the touches of a luxury bag, without a “blow-your-budget” price tag
  • Protip: If you’re not sure whether she’s a black bag or brown bag type of girl, this taupey tone will still work great with her existing wardrobe

4. Handknit Cardidan

  • Perfect for: brother, art student
  • Why: first off, this sweater looks both a little Big Lebowski and also sort of artistic. Plus my bro is a tall guy and this won’t look too dainty or precious on him
  • Protip: If you’re shopping for an item that’s out of your price range, but you know would be dearly loved by the recipient, as to go in on it with a pal or sibling! Quality over quantity!

Do you have a near and dear boyfriend/girlfriend/sister/brother or friend that would like one of those presents? Tell me who’s deserving and Need Supply will pick one lucky winner and send the present his/her way! Leave your answer in the comments. Ends at noon 11/27. Feel free to share with your readers as well!

WhatIWore:

When:
October 30, 2009

What:
Coat: old present
Turtleneck: Zara
Skirt: H&M
Belt: mall store?
Tights: ?
Boots: compliments of Need Supply

Where:
Photo shoot planning, lunch in the neighborhood, to the park

Why:
Originally this outfit was just the black tights and top and blue skirt - as to play up the fanciness of the boots - I wish I took a photo without the coat, because it was really cute - I felt a sort of beatnik vibe to it (maybe the turtleneck does that to me?) and did a cat eye and a pony tail.  I love all of the intricate details to the boot - the back is unreal and then from the front there’s varied textures that make it just a notch more something than a regular black boot. It was a bit chilly out (and my skirt was really short) so I grabbed this coat.  Next time I think I’ll go with a long black one instead.

When:
October 28, 2009

What:
Hat: gift from my milliner friend, Katie
Cardigan: Zara
Dress: Vintage
Fur Collar: Vintage, part of a coat
Pin: Vintage
Boots: compliments of Need Supply

Where:
To the grocery store (ha!)

Why:
Yesterday was pretty crummy outside, but for a short window of time in the late afternoon, the sun came out and my motivation to change out of sweats was alive! I LOVE THIS OUTFIT.  It might be my favorite ever!  First off all, I’m madly in love with the boots which look like antiques and are the kind of thing that makes any so-so outfit really wow.  I also love this vintage dress - it actually cost $100 and I bought it 3 years ago and wear it all the time. It was actually my go-to party dress when I didn’t have any fancy clothes back in the day (I wore it like this).  The hat is to cover up my hair (dirty).

The last bit is the fur collar, which gave me pause a year ago when I was vegan, but I am fine with wearing now - its vintage and a small part of the coat it originally came from.  I don’t have a problem with vintage furs, but definitely wouldn’t buy new.

What are your thoughts on fur - vintage or new?
