Colorblock DIY

WhatIWore: When I saw this wide shouldered pow of a color combination while thrifting last week, I knew it had potential. I also felt like if I messed it up, it wouldn’t be a big crying shame. I sketched up my ideas and got to work.
- First, I tried it on and marked (with a sharpie!) where I wanted to put the sleeve.
- Next, I got scissor happy.
- Then, I tried it back on and brought in the under arm/side seam by about an inch.
- Afterwards, I found some black piping in my sewing kit. Originally, I thought I’d just make some bias tape from an old black tee. But this worked!
- Sewed it on, turn and stitch in the ditch.
I’m not completely done- I’m still going to hem it up a few inches and I bought a great heavy metal zipper I plan to put on the back. I’m thinking of wearing it to a show during NYFW. Yes?! No?! Maybe?
What I Wore
When:
August 16, 2008
What:
Hat: Milliner’s shop (now closed)
Shades: F21
Necklace: Self Made
Top: American Eagle
Shorts: Free from work
Bag: bought in Hong Kong
Shoes: DSW
Where:
Lunch with my friend Lindsay from home
Why:
Was a big early bird this morning and did tons of running around, so by the time I needed to get dressed, I just wanted something easy. Clothes in the front of the closet (like these shorts and top) were just right. And it got sort of hot all of a sudden. But now I’m exhausted and need a nap before I spend the rest of the day working.
