What I Wore Organization: Tights

WhatIWore: I’ve really been embracing tights for the past three years. By spending a little extra money on (up to $30/pair) quality brands (no snags) I’ve built up a collection of over 25 pair.
I organize them by color and tie them onto hangers to easily see them in my closet. When I pick out an outfit I’ll style it all the way to the hosiery and then retie them to the hanger of the new look.
Its also a good way to see what you already have (and have clean!!)
Some brands I have worn and really liked include:
- Look from London
- HUE (available at Macy’s and carried by Anthropologie)
- We Love Colors (every shade under the sun)
- Target

WhatIWore:
The past three days I have felt so slumpy and I quickly figured out why— I’ve been wearing big wide leg jeans with flats. I feel so much more chic and glam in tights and those patent high heeled booties. This weekend I hope to do a little shuffling around of my closet, grab some on sale sweaters, more tights, and maybe some clunky high heals. And I guess I owe it to myself to gets some pants I might actually wear. Jeans! Agh! The bane of my existence!
What I Wore: September 24, 2008

When:
September 24, 2008
What:
Necklace: Self Made
Blouse: thrifted, vintage, worn backwards
Skirt: thrifted, vintage, hemmed
Tights: Target
Shoes: Payless
Jacket: Fred Segal
Where:
Office
Why:
First off, the more I wear heels, the harder it is for me to go back to flats. I feel like a sky scraper today! Also excited to wear a shirt fresh from the cleaners, paired with something *new* from my closet. This is a skirt I wore a lot last year as a knee length number, but as you can see, I’ve hemmed it up quite a bit. I love short skirts and tights together! Instead of being all black and sort of boring, the tights I’m wearing are a dark charcoal and ribbed. Actually, they’re leggings, which are my new faves. The shoes are my new classic and at the rate I’ve been wearing them, they’ll be perfectly broken in (…soon I hope).
I’m wearing my mom’s charm bracelet from when she was my age. My dad’s college is on there, her high school banner, an artist palette, an ancient Disney pin, a globe… I’ve added a thimble and a DG charm. Its such a great piece.

WHATIWORE GUIDE: TIGHTS
A simple way to take a so-so outfit to wow is by putting on a pair of opaque colored tights. I recommend going with a nylon/lyrca blend with at least 80 denier (thickness).
I remember the first time I wore a bright pair of tights to work. When you’re donning bright fuchsia, you’re going to bring attention to your stems. After a few compliments, I relaxed and expanded my wide color selection.
Here’s a few ideas on how you can ease your way into colorful legs this fall.
1. If you’re a little more conservative or shy about wearing new things (that may make you feel a little uncomfortable), take baby steps. My suggestions are:
- navy
- dark brown
- maroon
- rubine
2. If you’re a little more adventurous and can play with your dress code, try out:
- fuchsia
- orange
- red
- hunter green
3. The most daring of all girls will go for:
- yellow
- neon green
- neon orange
- violet
4. Patterned tights are going to be big for fall this year as well. Follow similar guidelines as above.
How to wear:
The more opaque your tights the shorter skirt you can wear without looking tacky. Remember- be conscious of your work environment or atmosphere of where you’ll be wearing these babies. (I still haven’t found the guts to wear my yellow or bright green pairs)
All of the above recommendations are from the fabulous online store We Love Color and are my personal recommendation (they didn’t pay me to write this— I just really love the selection and quality)
