Why:
When I worked in the fashion industry, we’d be designing clothing and seeing samples about 9 months to a year before they’d hit store shelves. It was easy to get ahead of ourselves and always move on to what’s next (or what’s next year). Now that I’m not part of the production wheel anymore, I still find the same thing happening after fashion week. For example - lots of awesome red and orange and colorblocking last February, which inspired a lot of my late winter/early spring looks. Now the calendar is catching up again and those awesome colors are coming back in editorials in all of the September issues. Color me re-inspired!
These two vintage pieces are slightly modified (blouse gathered in the back and pinned for a tailored fit, skirt hemmed) and I love how they clash work together. I almost got rid of the blouse with my big closet clean out last weekend, but luckily, there’s still a huge pile by the door on it’s way to the donation center. Procrastination finally pays off!!

Last week I wrote about a Hall of Fame dress… and I think these individual pieces - the blazer, blouse and skirt - are begging for a nomination as well.

But before we jump into that, I want to talk a little about my inspiration for this outfit. Last week I did a big closet clean up/out and re-organized my collection of vintage scarves. If you’re ever in a slump with what colors work well together, walk run to your local thrift store where you’ll find huge batches of inspiration, usually between one and ten dollars in the old silk scarf bin. Admittedly silk scarves can sometimes be a difficult to integrate into an outfit, but its well worth a dollar for the realization that lavender, red and navy look brilliant together. Or in the case of this outfit - red, coral, orange and oatmeal.

Now… about those remixes…

Why:
No, this is not a romper. Let me circle back and let you know how I got to that title.
Husband: Is that a romper?
Me: Do you even know what a romper is?
Husband: Is it kids-like clothes?
You see, I’m not the kind of fashion snob that smirks when my husband mislabels something I’m wearing. I actually love it. I love that he takes in interest in something I enjoy so much and it’s been pretty amazing how much he’s picked up over the past two years.
I think Adam might have called this a childish outfit because the pairing is something straight out of the late 80s. Flashback questionnaire: Does anyone remember those pastel stripe sets they used to see at the Limited Too? They came in peach, pale aqua, lavender and yellow. There was a tee shirt, shorts and a hoodie. All of my friends and I had them and would wear them on the same day (although I had to wait until it all went on sale). I had the pale aqua and I just thought it was so cool. This outfit reminds me of that one.

Can you believe I rode my bike to work and back in this skirt!?! What the hell was I thinking? (it’s about 3.5 miles round trip) And these shoes! Ok, it wasn’t really that hard, but I did end up changing at lunch to a fuller skirt for my pedal pushing.
