I’m not the go-to blogger for inspiration on how to rock menswear. I really lean more towards more girlie styles, but that’s why I love fashion - especially fashion in 2011. If you want to wear a 1950s inspired dress one day and pants and a blazer the next, no one’s going to bat an eyelash at you. While I was looking in the mirror at button up and blazer, I thought to myself how awesome it is that we can wear almost anything we want with very little social uproar. Think back 50 years… I know my mom didn’t wear pants until she was in high school in the late 60s and that was only on weekends. Granted, as fashion has evolved there’s always a bit of an uproar when a new shape or silhouette comes into play (going from corsets to brassieres, Dior’s New Look), but now we can teeter totter in all different directions.
This outfit makes me feel like an old man who gets dressed up to go to casinos out West. I am in LOVE with this shade of minty green and I love the way the necklace plays off of it. The shirt is a little bigger than I expected (whoops. did not try on at the thrift store. minus 10 points for me) so I needed to tailor it in and my blazer was the perfect solution.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on social norms as far as fashion is concerned. Do you feel like you can wear whatever you want? What about for those of you reading in other countries! Please share!
